Trophy Bear Hunting in the Manitoba Wilderness

From Bear Hunting Magazine, the authority on Black Bear Hunting in North America, March/April 2006 edition:

“It takes a 21 inch bear skull to make the all-time Boone and Crockett record book. There were numerous 21 inch-plus, seven foot-plus bruins taken in this world-class bear hunting province in 2005. Many of them in beautiful color phases and it is impossible to list them all. The trophy potential in this province is second to none, with the majority of the hunting taking place in the spring when bears are their leanest. Skull size better defines the massive genetics that exist here. Many spring bears will carry 100-150 pounds more bulk by the time they head into hibernation.”

Being an outfitter providing only fly-in hunts, I have a product that others in the bear hunting business cannot provide. The preparation for the hunt requires much more organization and planning to insure that you, as the hunter, receive the absolute best opportunity to harvest a quality animal. All baits and related hunting equipment must be flown to the camps. The bait sites are tended to and restocked by boat and good old elbow grease. There are no roads here. The inaccessibility and the remoteness of the sites provide the hunter with several advantages:

1- The topography consists of Canadian Shield with large open tract areas of swamp, bog and old, boreal and evergreen forest. The land drops 200 feet from the Ontario border to the shore of Lake Winnipeg in this area in about 100 miles, presenting flooded lake areas and numerous inspiring rapids and water falls where bears like to frequent to scoop fish. Several of these natural wonders are very close to the camps. The area boasts a large population of moose and is a breeding area for the Woodland Caribou making this FANTASTIC BIG BEAR country. The abundance of natural forage for the bear population results in numerous, big bears, 30% color bears. This camp has offered 100% opportunity with about a 90% success rate since hunts began here in the 90s. Hunters can be assured that, because the area is only accessible by floatplane, that your hunt will be very safe. You and your guides are the only people there and the camps are the only ones on the lake.

2- Currenly, there are only 6 licenses hunted here per year! Because we only sell 6 licenses per year, the hunter can be assured that he will benefit from a largely unhunted bear population. Several bait sites are available at each camp and hunters will be moved to active sites to maximize their opportunity to harvest a quality bear.

3- Kitchi Island Outposts will be hunting 2 new areas beginning in spring of 2006 which have never been hunted for black bear in the past. The potential for trophies in these areas can only be regarded as; "as good as it gets!"

4- Fantastic Northern and Walleye fishing are included and is a bonus to your hunt.
